IN CUSTODY: South Gate Homicide Suspect Jose Deras arrested in Mexico City
Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives report that Suspect Jose Deras, who is
wanted in connection with the homicide of his baby daughter, was located and is
being detained in Mexico City, Mexico. He was detained without incident and is
being held by Mexican officials.
He is awaiting the initiation of formal extradition requests on behalf of Los
Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau investigators and the Los
Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
At this time, it is unknown when Deras will be returned to Los Angeles County.
Suspect Deras is from El Salvador.
The 2008 Nissan Sentra, which Deras used to flee the crime scene, was located
and impounded in the Southern California area.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 10-month-old
girl, which occurred Saturday, January 17, 2011, in the 5100 block of McCallum
Avenue, South Gate, is continuing.
No details about how and when exactly he was taken into custody are available at
this time.

South Gate man WANTED for murder of 10 month old girl
The Saturday evening homicide of a 10-month old baby from blunt force trauma has
resulted in sheriff's Homicide detectives and South Gate police officers seeking
the public's help in locating a South Gate man, wanted in connection with the
baby's murder.
Suspect Jose Deras allegedly assaulted his wife and 10-month old daughter at
about 5:40PM, in the 5100 block of McCallum Avenue, South Gate.
The assault resulted in the death of the infant girl.
Suspect Deras was last seen driving his black 2008 Nissan Sentra, black, 4-Door,
California license number 6FYB170. His destination is not known.
Jose Deras is a 20-year old Hispanic male, 5'08', 160 pounds. He has curly black
hair, slight moustache, and a goatee. He has a tattoo of a dragon on his right
shoulder, and a tattoo of skulls on his upper right shoulder.
