Apollo Park Poaching - Lancaster

In response to complaints of poaching, on Thursday, January 13, 2011, members of
the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau and the California
Department of Fish and Game conducted a surveillance of Apollo Park (4555 West
Avenue G, Lancaster) .

Information had been received that Fish and Game Laws regarding fishing limits
were being violated on days when the pond is stocked with trout. This illegal
activity diminishes the enjoyment of the park by law abiding citizens who are
interested in fishing legally.

During this operation two members of the public were issued citations for
fishing with more than two poles and smoking in a county park. The majority of
park patrons were found in compliance with the rules of the park.

Sheriff's Parks Bureau Captain Stephen Smith said that joint operations such as
this will continue to occur on a random basis to ensure compliance with the
fishing rules and regulations.

Game Warden Banks stated that operations such as this are something that the
Department of Fish and Game normally does on their own. Working with the Los
Angeles Sheriff’s Department was a good experience and we will continue to work
together in operations like this at all County Parks.

The Parks Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department polices over 140
county parks, golf courses and special event venues throughout Los Angeles
County.

Partner to prevent or report crime by contacting your local Sheriff’s station.
Or if you wish to remain Anonymous, call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing
800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637),
or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org
